Beginner skiing and snowboarding in Arabba

Arabba is a charming, high-altitude village in the heart of the Dolomites, but it's not the best base for complete beginners. The resort has a couple of small nursery slopes near the village, which are ideal for first turns and confidence-building. However, it lacks the gentle green and easy blue runs needed for progression, and the terrain around the main lifts tends to be steeper and less forgiving. For this reason we don't recommend for beginners and don't offer beginner tuition here.

Intermediate skiing and snowboarding in Arabba

Arabba is a fantastic choice for intermediates who enjoy exploring and clocking up mileage. The local slopes are mostly made up of blues and reds, particularly around Porta Vescovo and Passo Pordoi. The descents here are varied and scenic, offering great snow quality thanks to Arabba’s high altitude and north-facing aspect.

Beyond Arabba, intermediates can easily link into the Sella Ronda ski circuit—one of the most iconic ski routes in the Alps. This loop connects Arabba to Val Gardena, Alta Badia and Val di Fassa, opening up access to hundreds of kilometres of well-groomed slopes. For a more leisurely day, the rolling pistes of Alta Badia offer flatter runs with stunning views.

Advanced skiing and snowboarding in Arabba

For advanced skiers and snowboarders, Arabba is among the most challenging resorts in the Dolomiti Superski area. The Porta Vescovo sector is known for its steep, often icy black runs, including the thrilling Fodoma and Ornella pistes. These slopes are north-facing, so they hold snow well and remain in great condition throughout the season.

One of the biggest draws is the nearby Marmolada Glacier, which rises to over 3,200 metres. From the top, you can descend the famous Bellunese run, an exhilarating 12km piste that drops over 1,800 metres in altitude. Accessible via Malga Ciapela (a short ski or drive from Arabba), the glacier offers high-altitude snow and stunning views of the Dolomites.

Off piste and snow parks in Arabba

Arabba has a reputation for good off-piste terrain, especially around Porta Vescovo and Marmolada. The steep faces, couloirs and powder bowls can be excellent after fresh snowfall, but always require a local mountain guide due to avalanche risk and complex terrain. Routes like the descent into the Val Lasties or Sass Pordoi area are well-known among experienced freeriders.

There isn’t a snow park in Arabba itself, but freestyle riders can head to Alta Badia or Val di Fassa, both of which have well-maintained parks with jumps, rails and boardercross tracks. The Snowpark Alta Badia at Piz Sorega is especially popular, with lines suitable for beginners and experienced riders alike.

Discover Arabba

Arabba is one of the best placed ski resorts for exploring the Dolomiti Superski area and is perfect for keen skiers and boarders. The resort itself is extraordinarily beautiful, with unspoilt landscapes and an uncommercialised resort centre. This compact, friendly village offers a small selection of non-ski activities and even has it's own natural ice skating rink.

Arabba has some of the most interesting slopes of the resorts that make up the celebrated Sellaronda circuit. It is a real skiers’ holiday base and boasts excellent, challenging pistes aimed towards intermediate to advance skiers and boarders. We don't recommend Arabba for beginners, but the Dolomites has plenty of other incredible resorts for first-timers including Kronplatz and Selva.

You'll marvel at the stunning slopes of the mighty Marmolada glacier which are within easy reach.

The highly recommended Hidden Valley is close by too. Part of the spectacular Dolomiti Superski area, the modern lift system ensures Arabba links easily to the Sella Ronda, with Canazei in the Val di Fassa to the West, and Corvara in the sunny Alta Badia ski area to the North.

The fast 'Ornella' run down to Pescoi is one of the big thrills for local skiers – and one of the biggest local challenges.

As the resort itself it's fairly small, there is a small selection of shops, bars, restaurants and pizzerias to visit during your stay. Arabba is a fairly quiet ski resort and the après-ski is low key and relaxed. There are a few options for those of you wanting a bit of a party and a drink, including Bar Peter and Mister X, but most of the time you'll find a lot of the bars have a chillaxed vibe.
