About Store Ringheim Hotel

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich history of the Store Ringheim. Once a working farm, this beautifully preserved property is situated at the base of the Hangur Mountain, surrounded by the serene Norwegian countryside. With a history deeply rooted in agriculture, many of the hotel’s bedrooms are housed within former farm buildings dating back to the 18th century.

The largest of the Ringheim farms, Store Ringheim (meaning "large" in Norwegian) has undergone a careful and loving restoration to transform it into a charming fifteen-room boutique hotel. With a rich history dating back to 1778, the farm’s heritage is woven into every detail of the property. From the beautifully preserved wooden beams in the Old Farm House to the farm-to-table dishes served in the restaurant, each aspect pays tribute to its past. As part of its commitment to honouring its cultural significance, Store Ringheim is a proud member of the Historic Hotels of Europe; the association celebrates hotels that maintain the distinct character and traditions of their locations, offering guests an opportunity to immerse themselves in the charm of local history.

Store Ringheim is a small boutique hotel with only fifteen rooms split across two buildings. The Old Farm House Gardshuset dates back to 1860 and is the former lairds house with each of the unique bedrooms being named after what they were called before it was converted into a hotel; you can find the old living room, the kitchen and the attic, amongst family members' former bedrooms.

Farm to table

Food is a big part of any holiday, and a stay at the charming Store Ringheim is no different. The rustic Restaurant Flor'n features tasty homemade meals made with seasonal and local ingredients. Much of what you find on the breakfast table and the evening menu comes from the farm or from local producers in the Voss region. The Store Ringheim farm has its own strawberry field, various berry bushes and a large kitchen garden with both flowers and herbs, all of which feature on the small menu. From hearty breakfasts to evening meals, every bite reflects the farm’s dedication to sustainability and local flavours, making your culinary experience at Store Ringheim as memorable as your stay itself.

Each morning you can enjoy a tasty buffet breakfast with a range of sweet and savoury options available.

When it comes to your evening meal you can enjoy a fixed three course menu featuring seasonal recipes, with ingredients sourced either on the farm or from the local Voss area. A range of ingredients including berries, herbs and mushrooms are collected from the farm.

Discover Voss

Voss is one of the largest ski resorts in Western Norway and is located just 100 kilometres from Bergen. Voss is loved for its lively local culture, cosy hotels and delicious Norwegian food. The breath-taking mountain views and nearby fjords make it a fantastic destination for outdoor enthusiasts all year round.

Voss is known to have Norway's best skiing terrain with 40 kilometres of groomed alpine trails and 24 varied descents, including an international giant slalom course and a SuperG course. The ski area offers a fantastic range of terrain for both beginners and advanced skiers and boarders. Intermediates however have the best span available to them, with lots of slopes to master and improve their skills. There is also a range of manageable powder slopes that are perfect for learning basic off-piste skiing.

Boarders aren't forgotten about here, with a big jump, half pipe and boardercross easily accessible in the resorts snow park. The powder fields here are also excellent for freeriding. Due to the shorter daylight hours, night skiing is easily available in Voss. Evening skiing takes place three nights a week, and there are more than 10 kilometres of floodlit trails for all levels.

Thursdays (day trip)

Norway is known for its stunning scenery and dramatic fjords and we’d recommend visiting these during your stay. This fantastic day trip allows you to experience both, taking you on a cruise down one of Norway's most iconic fjords, followed by a trip on the Flåm Railway – voted as one of the most scenic train routes in the world. Your day will start with a bus trip from Voss to Gudvangen. Here you’ll jump on one of the electric cruise ships, holding up to 400 people, and slowly make your way down the Nærøyfjord towards the small town of Flåm. The boat trip takes roughly 2 hours, and you’ll be able to soak in all the views, take pictures of the steep mountains and grab a bite to eat from the onboard café. Once docked up in Flåm, you’ll then hop on the Flåm Train for your trip to Myrdal. Both sides of the train offer fantastic views of snow-capped mountains, frozen waterfalls and deep valleys - you’ll even pass through the mountains in the many man-made tunnels. The train ride to Myrdal takes roughly 45 minutes, and once you arrive, you’ll head back to your resort on a train from Myrdal to Voss.
