Beginner skiing in Myrkdalen

Beginner skiers will enjoy the gentle slopes, there are dedicated areas with green and blue runs allowing you to practice your turns and techniques. There's a great ski school in Myrkdalen with English speaking instructors.

Family skiing in Myrkdalen

For the little ones, there's a designated children's area with gentle slopes serviced by a magic carpet lift. The Huldra Forest run is a favourite with the children. This slope runs down between the snow-covered trees and has fun side trails. There's also an ungroomed path through the adventure forest. You'll also find a children's park (the Forest Cross) with varied terrain and a small element park - perfect for adventurous skiers and snowboarders.

Intermediate skiing in Myrkdalen

Intermediates will enjoy the varied slopes in Myrkdalen, whether you want to spend a day enjoying the views on the blues or venturing down the reds, you have the pick of the whole ski area.

Advanced skiing in Myrkdalen

Although the ski area in Myrkdalen is not known for being the most challenging, there is a variety of runs and fantastic off-piste options. If you want to take an easy day of carving down the slopes, head up the Kari Traa T-bar for beautiful views and enjoyable red runs - there are also off-piste opportunities on both sides of the slopes. If you are after more of a challenge, head up the Myrkdalsekspressen chairlift for access to the Bygardsløypo, a steep black slope where alpine ski clubs practise and race. The Leinevegen slope is also a good option, it takes you through the snowy area above the cabins.

The surrounding landscape provides you with plenty of opportunities for exploring the ungroomed, powder-filled areas. We recommend joining a guided tour, where you'll be taken to some of the lesser-known routes and hidden powder-filled areas - it makes for an unforgettable alpine experience.

Snowboarding in Myrkdalen

Snowboarders will enjoy the variety of slopes in the area, whether you want to cruise down the blues and reds or test yourself on black runs. The resort also has fantastic freeride terrain. For the adventurous boarder, there's a range of snow parks and boardercross trails. The Village Park is the best snow park in the area with a range of jumps and rails. The resort consists of T-bars, drag lifts and a handful of chairlifts - Check out the linked Myrkdalen piste map for individual slopes.

Discover Myrkdalen

Surrounded by the picturesque Norwegian fjords and deep valleys, Myrkdalen is a charming village in Voss's municipality in the Vestland county. Renowned for its stunning natural landscape, family-friendly ski area and arctic activities, it's a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.  Myrkdalen has a laid-back and picturesque alpine vibe, with cosy cafes, restaurants serving tasty food and high-standard accommodation with ski-in and ski-out access.

Myrkdalen is one of Western Norway’s largest ski resorts, offering spacious, uncrowded slopes suitable for all skill levels, along with terrain parks and outstanding off-piste opportunities. The resort is especially great for first-time skiers and snowboarders, there's a dedicated beginner area serviced by a magic carpet and smooth progression to gentle blue runs higher up the mountain. There’s a wide variety of well-groomed blue and red runs so that intermediates can take their pick - if you're up for a challenge, there's also a couple of black runs to explore. While the ski area may not have lots of black-grade slopes,  its exceptional off-piste terrain makes it a hidden gem for those seeking adventure beyond the marked slopes.

Whilst in Myrkdalen, you’ll have the opportunity to experience some fun winter activities when you’re not busy skiing. Spend the evening exploring the untouched wilderness surrounding the resort by snowshoe, before warming up by the fire with a cup of Gløgg and some traditional Norwegian stories. Challenge friends and family to a race on a sledging trip. Or visit Norway's most scenic spots on a day trip including a cruise down the Nærøyfjord as well as a ride on one of Norway's iconic trains - the Flåm Railway. Pre-book any of our handpicked excursions and create your exciting itinerary before you travel.

There's a small variety of restaurants in Myrkdalen, many of which serve tasty Norwegian delicacies, and dishes made with local produce.

For an afternoon treat, you can book to have afternoon tea at the Myrkdalen Hotel. Embrace British traditions and enjoy a cup of tea with a selection of homemade scones, sweet treats and sandwiches.

If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, the Myrkdalsstovo Welcome Centre Café is known for its tasty sandwiches and freshly baked goods. Be sure to try the waffles, the café is known for them! You can also bring your snacks or lunch into the café if you are not tempted by the tasty treats they have to offer.

When it comes to dinnertime, Restaurant Tunet serves the best pizzas in the resort. Whilst Norway isn't typically known for its pizzas, the pizzeria at the Myrkdalen Hotel is the talk of the town. Choose between classic Neapolitan pizzas or if you're feeling adventurous go for a white base pizza (vegetarian and gluten-free options are also available).  If you are after more of an alpine-style dinner, Nuten Fondue is the best place to enjoy a social dinner with friends and family. The restaurant serves delicious Swiss-style cheese fondue with various accompaniments like meats, bread, vegetables and potatoes. Orders must be placed before 2:00 PM on the same day. Fondue is available from 6:00 PM.

Myrkdalen has a laid-back après and nightlife scene. Pudder After-Ski is the best spot to enjoy a drink and catch up with family and friends. Throughout the day quick bites are available, however once the slopes shut a local DJ creates an enjoyable after-ski atmosphere. If you want to keep the party going, Pudder will reopen as a nightclub later in the evening (Friday and Saturday only).

If you want to stock up on the essentials, there's a small selection of daily groceries in Myrkdalsstovo.

There is a sports shop located in the hotel area, where you can browse the latest trend pieces in active and leisure wear. The rental sports shop is typically open until late, so you can maximise your time on the mountain before returning your equipment at the end of your last day.

Relax and rejuvenate after a day of arctic activities at the Myrkdalen Hotel Mountain Sauna. The saunas are set back from the hotel surrounded by the nature in the area, so you can unwind in peace with incredible views from the large windows. Be sure to pre-book your slot, as it can get incredibly busy during the winter season.

Snowshoeing is a great way to explore parts of the resort that the skiers don’t get to see. On this snowshoe hike, you’ll walk along an easy trail into the untouched wilderness of Myrkdalen. Get ready to go off-piste, as you’ll need to hike your way through frozen forests to the Laavo. Once you’ve found the Laavo, you’ll have the opportunity to warm up by the open fire with a hot cup of Gløgg (a traditional Norwegian drink similar to mulled wine) while your guide tells you stories before making your way back to town. The whole trip takes roughly 2 hours, and you can expect wonderful views of the resort and surrounding mountains behind the setting sun.

Norway is known for its stunning scenery and dramatic fjords and we’d recommend visiting these during your stay. This fantastic day trip allows you to experience both, taking you on a cruise down one of Norway's most iconic fjords, followed by a roundtrip on the Flåm Railway – voted as one of the most scenic train routes in the world. Your day will start with a bus trip from Myrkdalen to Gudvangen. Here, you’ll jump on one of the electric cruise ships, holding up to 400 people, and slowly make your way down the Nærøyfjord towards the small town of Flåm. The boat trip takes roughly 2 hours, and you’ll be able to soak in all the views, take pictures of the steep mountains and grab a bite to eat from the onboard café. Once docked up in Flåm, you’ll then hop on the Flåm Train for your round trip through the mountains. Both sides of the train offer fantastic views of snow-capped mountains, frozen waterfalls and deep valleys - you’ll even pass through the mountains in the many man-made tunnels. The train trip takes just under 2 hours, and once back in Flåm you’ll get back on the bus before heading back to your accommodation in Myrkdalen.
