Beginners skiing and snowboarding in Arinsal

Beginners will feel at home with an almost unbeatable combination of excellent, friendly, English speaking tuition and a good variety of easy slopes across the ski area including a scenic run right from the summit. The nursery slopes and ski school meeting points are at the top of the Arinsal or La Massana gondolas that take you from the villages up to the ski area.

Intermediates skiing and snowboarding in Arinsal

Over 70% of the Pal-Arinsal ski area are blue and red slopes. Be in your element with a good choice of wide, flattering pistes to keep most skiers and snowboarders occupied. There are also some lovely wide tree-lined runs on the Pal sector as well as some challenging red runs.

Advanced skiing and snowboarding in Arinsal

Skiing and boarding for the experienced is limited in the Pal-Arinsal area, although across at Arinsal, you'll find the best opportunities just off the La Capa draglift. There are also some testing mogul runs and challenging off-piste and the freeride areas boasts a mega half-pipe, Big Air Jump, as well as a Boardercross with jumps, bumps, curves and music - definitely worth checking out!

Tuition information

Ski school lessons are half days from 10am or 2pm for 3 hours. We always try to book lessons in the mornings but on some high season dates, afternoon sessions are allocated.

There are 2 ski schools

  • Arinsal Ski School, meet at the top of the Arinsal gondola.
  • Pal Ski School meet at the top of La Massana gondola opposite the magic carpet lift. This is for all guests staying at the Hotel Magics in La Massana.

Group ski lessons need a minimum number of guests to take place. Very occasionally these numbers aren’t reached. If you have pre-booked lessons and this happens, the ski-school will do their best to offer private lessons to the value of the lessons you had originally booked.

Levels of tuition

  • Beginner: never skied before
  • Level 1: advanced beginner; can control speed, snowplough and change direction on gentle slopes
  • Level 2: low intermediate; snowplough turns and start to ski parallel
  • Level 3: high intermediate; parallel turns and confident on all slopes

Prices and supplements are correct at time of publishing. Up-to-date prices are confirmed at time of booking.

Discover Arinsal

Arinsal, located towards Andorra’s western border with Spain, is part of Andorra’s Vallnord ski region which includes the Pal and Arinsal ski areas, with over 200 kilometres of slopes. There are two separate and very distinct villages - Arinsal is livelier with lots of night life, and La Massana which has more shops and restaurants. The resorts are 6 kilometres apart and connected by bus that runs until just after 10pm. Both Arinsal and La Massana are family-orientated and offer you access to some of the best-value skiing anywhere in Europe.

The après ski in Arinsal is not to be missed due to unbeatable tax free prices. Head over to Cisco's Bar for buy one get one free cocktails, free chilli nachos and special offers on pints or keep the party going out in the snow at Surf which has an outdoor bar and live DJ sets. Alternatively, have some fun with friends and try your luck at disco bingo or karaoke at the Derby Pub.

Arinsal and La Massana have a wide selection of spas between them so there'll be plenty of opportunities for you to revive your muscles before hitting the slopes again. The majority of our hotels offer spas available to guests and the general public but if you fancy exploring a new setting why not head to the capital - Andorra La Vella - where you'll find the comforts and treatments of the Caldea spa.

The capital, Andorra la Vella, will provide you with more than 400 shops offering tax-free goods. Although there is a dominance of sports shops, specialising in cycling, skiing and mountain equipment, there is also a wide range of fashion and jewellery shops, restaurants and bars and there's even a chocolate factory. If you fancy something luxurious or just a simple souvenir, the Andorra la Vella shopping scene has it all.

Andorra is known for its highly reputable English-speaking ski schools and instructors, so beginners and intermediates looking to perfect their technique are in the right place. The ski schools here are very family friendly with superb feedback on introducing children to snow sports. There are group lessons and private lessons on offer - so depending on your preference, learning can be done on your terms.

Things to do in Arinsal

If you'd prefer to explore the winter landscape by foot we'd recommend trying snow shoeing. Using poles and your own strength you wade through the snow, making it fantastic exercise as well as a lot of fun. A highlight about snow shoeing is that it takes place away from the busy slopes, allowing you to explore the quieter, untouched parts of Andorra.

Also known as 'Mushing', hit the dog-sled circuits and take a guided tour over at El Tarter or Grau Roig. Choose to take charge and control the sled, assisting the dogs on their run, or sit back and relax in the passenger seat making sure to enjoy the snowy scenery.

If you fancy a break from skiing, take the focus off the mountains and spend some quality fun time with the family. Downstairs in the Princesa Parc Hotel you'll find a 10-pin bowling alley, along with a bar and games room that is open to the general public.

Fly above the mountains on an exhilarating zip line adventure. This unforgettable experience offers breathtaking bird’s-eye views.

Be the first to enjoy the mountain, you can carve down pristine, untouched slopes, gliding over fresh snow as you take in the calm and beauty of the mountain at dawn.

Prices start from €22 (Ski Pass not included – a valid pass is required and must be purchased in advance, as it cannot be bought on the morning).
