About Yllas Saaga Apartments

Ylläs Saaga Apartments enjoy a prime slope side setting, offering virtually ski-in, ski-out access.  Situated on the Ylläsjärvi side of the fell, you can enjoy stunning views over the snow covered horizon stretching into the distance. For added convenience, the ski lifts, ski school meeting point and ski hire shop are right next door. The apartments are just a short bus ride from the centre of Äkäslompolo, where you can find a large supermarket, a couple of shops and restaurants.

The apartments are modern and spacious, furnished in a contemporary Nordic style, with all the features needed for a week in Lapland, including a TV, kitchen, drying cabinet and a sauna. The Saaga apartments are set out across different blocks, with one block being connected to the hotel and another block being around 300 metres from the hotel.

The apartments form part of the resort with the Ylläs Saaga Hotel. Pre-book the optional 'Spa Package' where you can enjoy the excellent spa facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub for the duration of your stay (pre-book or pay locally).

Located on the Ylläsjarvi side of the fell, the Saaga Apartments are ideal for keen skiers and boarders, as the slopes and ski lifts are a snowballs throw away - making it incredibly easy to get on and off the piste each day. An added benefit being the ski school meeting point and ski hire shop are conveniently located next door. Lapland offers a unique skiing experience as the slopes are floodlit, allowing you to ski on the gentle slopes from sunrise to sunset - even when there are limited daylight hours.

The Saaga Apartments are self-catered apartments. You also have the option to upgrade to bed & breakfast or half board for an additional supplement.

Conveniently located within walking distance of a local mini-market, you can stock up on the essentials. Each apartment includes a small kitchenette, allowing you to prepare meals in comfort or explore the nearby restaurants.

Take the fuss out of meal times, and upgrade to either bed & breakfast or a half board. Meals are taken in the Biegga restaurant at the Ylläs Saaga Hotel (up to a 300 metre walk).

  • Each morning enjoy a varied breakfast buffet with a range of hot and cold options, served from 7am - 10am.
  • If you have upgraded to half board, you can enjoy a delicious three course meal with a choice of main, available from 6pm - 7.30pm. 

You receive a 30% discount for the Tsohka à la carte restaurant. Please inform the reception by 6pm the day before. Please note that the à la carte restaurant is not guaranteed to be open all season.

Guests staying on half board over the New Year will have a New Year's Eve gala dinner included.

There is a mid-week clean with towel and linen change. End of stay cleaning is included.

Annexes

Some apartments are connected to the Hotel Saaga, while others are a short walk (approx. 300 meters) from the main reception. 

The Saaga Apartments will always try to situate our guests in the block connected to the hotel, however, guests may also be located in nearby apartment blocks, which are not directly connected to the hotel and are up to a 300 metre walk away.

Things to do in Yllas

Snowmobiles are one of the best ways of getting around Finland in the winter, and you’ll have the chance to experience driving through the vast Finnish forests and fells on an exhilarating snowmobile safari. You will be instructed on how to drive a snowmobile before embarking on an adventure of a lifetime through the pristine arctic landscape. Children will be in a sleigh or pod behind the guide, while the adults can either share or drive solo. 

Duration: 2-2.5 hours (from Äkäslompolo)

  • All drivers must be 18yrs+ and bring a full, valid photographic driver's licence with them to the excursion.
  • Children must be aged 11 years or above and at least 140cm tall to ride as a passenger on a snowmobile, they must be able to touch the footrest when sat on the snowmobile. Children under this height or aged 4-10 years will be towed in a sled or pod behind the guide. It is not possible for infants (aged 0-3 years) to take part in this excursion.
  • Single riders who have purchased a sharing snowmobile may need to upgrade locally to a single-driving snowmobile, if a shared snowmobile is not available.
Snowmobiles

Hunt for the magical Northern Lights on a thrilling snowmobile safari under the stars. The beautiful natural phenomenon is only visible on dark, clear nights – during the safari a guide will take you on an adventure to the best spot in Yllas to potentially catch a glimpse of them. You will stop to warm up with a drink beside an open fire, and listen to the guide telling ancient stories and beliefs of the Northern Lights before continuing on the hunt for the best show on earth. 

Duration: 2-2.5 hours (from Äkäslompolo)

  • All drivers must be 18 years+ and bring a full, valid photographic driver's licence with them to the excursion.

Snowmobiles

Step into a winter wonderland with a memorable reindeer safari and farm visit in the heart of Finnish Lapland. Glide through the snowy forest in a traditional reindeer-pulled sleigh, taking in the peaceful surroundings and magical Arctic scenery at a gentle pace — just as the Sámi people have done for generations.

Reindeer Rides

Feel the thrill of the Arctic on an unforgettable husky safari through the snowy landscapes of Finnish Lapland. Hold on as a lively team of huskies whisks you across frozen trails, surrounded by silent forests and sparkling white scenery – the perfect blend of adventure and natural beauty. For this safari, you will drive the sleigh.

Husky Safaris

Step into the magical Lainio Snow Village, a true Arctic marvel made entirely out of snow and ice. Situated 200 km above the Arctic Circle, this extraordinary hotel is crafted each winter from over 400,000 kilos of ice and 45,000 cubic meters of snow. Every corner of the village is adorned with breathtaking carvings, from the beautifully designed rooms and courtyards to the mesmerising ice bar, restaurant, and Ice Chapel. With themes often inspired by Nordic mythology, the design changes every year, offering a unique experience for every visitor.

  • Lainio Snow Village visits are available from mid December onwards. If you have booked your visit before the official public opening, you will enjoy a more exclusive, behind-the-scenes experience, with the chance to see the artists at work. Please note that the completion of the Snow Village is dependent on weather conditions.
Ice Activities

Snowshoeing in Ylläs offers a beautiful way to explore the breathtaking scenery in Finnish Lapland. Venture out into the pristine Arctic landscape on a guided snowshoe safari through the snow-covered forests. Halfway, you’ll stop for a warming berry juice in front of the fire, and as you explore the trails, your guide will tell stories about Lappish culture and the natural landscape that surrounds you. You may even encounter wildlife such as reindeer, arctic hares, and even the occasional fox or owl.

Ice Activities

Head out on a guided snowshoe adventure under the starry night sky in search of the magical Northern Lights. You’ll be guided through the pristine Arctic wilderness, under the snow-covered trees, to the best spots in Ylläs, hoping to witness this natural phenomenon. Once you reach the halfway point on the trail, you’ll stop for a warming drink in front of the campfire, where you will be told stories of Lapland and beliefs of the Sámi people, as well as the scientific explanation of this magical light phenomenon.

Ice Activities

Husky Rides

Speed across the specially designed ice track, surrounded by the stunning snow-covered landscapes of Levi. Whether you're a seasoned driver or a first-timer, ice karting offers an adrenaline-pumping challenge as you drift and race on the icy surface. Equipped with high-performance karts kitted out with studded tires and all the necessary safety gear, you'll race around the track feeling the adrenaline of winning the race.

Duration: 1-1.5 hours at site ( 2 x driving sessions)

  • Drivers must be over 145cm tall and aged 12+ to pre book the Ice Karting excursion.
Ice Activities

Discover the snowy trails of Ylläs in a thrilling and unique way with electric fat bikes. Designed with wide tires and adjustable electronic assistance, these bikes make it easy to navigate the diverse snowy terrain while soaking in the stunning, snow-covered landscapes. Along the way, you'll pause to enjoy a hot drink amidst the serene, picturesque surroundings. 

Duration: 1.5-2 hours guided e-bike

  • Riders must be over 150cm tall and aged 12+ to pre book this excursion.
  • Unless stated otherwise, excursion days and time of day (morning, afternoon, or evening) are as shown on your invoice.
  • Exact excursion timings will be confirmed upon arrival in resort.
  • Some excursions may have flexible scheduling. Where this is the case, your invoice will state: "The actual time and day of your excursion will be confirmed locally and may differ from your invoice and voucher." Our resort team will then advise you on arrival.
  • Excursion days and times are subject to change. While we will do our best to provide advance notice, some adjustments may be necessary. Our Excursion Coordinator and Destination Experts will be available in the resort to assist with any changes.
