Why ski in Graubünden Ski Area

The Graubünden ski area is the largest region in Switzerland, making up 17.2% of the country's total land. It is a top ski destination and is home to three of the world's most classic ski resorts: Davos, Klosters and St.Moritz. Ski and snowboard holidays start when you arrive in Switzerland, as the excellent Swiss rail network takes you efficiently and quickly from Zurich to your resort, through some of Switzerland's most picturesque regions and typical ‘chocolate box’ Alpine scenery.

The Davos Klosters area has 300 kilometres of slopes alone and offers opportunities for all abilities. Cruise your way down the long runs or race your way across the world cup trails on a pair of cross country skis. Alternatively, if you'd like to try other snow activities, the Davos Hockey Club is legendary, home to the 'Davos Ice Dream' where you can test out your skills at ice skating and curling.

St Moritz's mountain is considered one of the most famous snow sports paradises in the world and has something for everyone, whether you're a beginner or a snow sports connoisseur - race down a slalom, hit a few jumps at the snow park or spend time with the children on the fun family slope. Not only does the Engadin and St Moritz ski area provide a high class lifestyle and excellent skiing, you're also in for a treat as the area is shaped by valleys, lakes and glaciers meaning you're in for some unforgettable views.

The food and drink of the Graubünden region reflect its Alpine landscape and rich cultural mix of  Swiss, German, and Italian influences.  Across Davos, Klosters and St.Moritz you can find a range of traditional alpine dishes including Swiss cheese fondue, raclette and tartiflette, alongside specialities from the region including Capuns - a potato style Spätzli dough and dried meat wrapped in Swiss chard and baked with cream or Maluns, crispy pan-fried grated potatoes served with applesauce or cheese. The region is also home to Bündnerfleisch, an air-dried beef delicacy, and the famous Bündner Nusstorte, a caramelized walnut tart that's a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth.   Italian-speaking valleys contribute specialties like delicious pizza and pasta, as well as regional specialities including polenta or  Pizzoccheri - a buckwheat pasta with potatoes, cheese and cabbage

The Graubünden's mountain cheeses, such as those from Sertig, pair well with local wines from the Bündner Herrschaft, especially the renowned Pinot Noir. For stronger spirits, the cherry-based Röteli liqueur is a popular digestif, while local beers like Calanda reflect the region’s modern brewing scene.

When you are not making the most of the incredible skiing in the region, many of the hotels in the Graubünden have their own wellness facilities you can use, often featuring swimming pools, saunas and steam rooms - massages and treatments are also available for additional fees, so you can thoroughly relax after a day of adventures.

The Hotel Monopol in St. Moritz features a stunning adults-only rooftop spa, complete with two saunas, a steam room, jacuzzi, and a plunge pool. Open to both residents and non-residents, it’s well worth a visit for a moment of peace and quiet accompanied by fantastic mountain views.

One of the oldest hotels in Davos, the Hotel Seehof offers an exceptional spa experience with a whirlpool, bio-sauna, Finnish sauna, steam room, and Kneipp therapy pool. Guests can also enjoy a fully equipped fitness room during their stay. With its combination of modern wellness and traditional hospitality, the hotel provides a serene retreat for relaxation and rejuvenation.

For guests staying in Klosters, the Hotel Sport has an incredible indoor swimming pool, children's splash pool sauna and fitness room. Plus there's also a sports hall with table tennis, billiards and table football to keep you entertained.

Shopping in the Graubünden offers a blend of traditional craftsmanship, local delicacies, and upscale boutiques, reflecting the region's cultural diversity. Along the high streets of the resorts of St. Moritz and Davos-Klosters, you’ll find luxury fashion stores and designer boutiques alongside shops selling traditional Swiss products including wooollen products, handcrafted wooden items and leather goods. Regional specialties like Bündnerfleisch (air-dried beef), Bündner Nusstorte (nut tart), locally produced cheeses and wines make for excellent gourmet souvenirs and a delicious taste of the region to take home.

Klosters freeride

If you haven't got your fill of winter sports during the day, why not continue into the night? You can enjoy night skiing on the flood lit pistes on Klosters Selfranga up until 9.30pm (usually Tuesdays & Fridays) throughout the season. Or, try the night time cross country trail until 9.30pm (usually Tuesday and Thursday). You can even head over to neighbouring Davos for night-time tobogganing.

The first toboggan race took place in Davos back in 1883 and it's still really popular in the area. There are plenty of runs you can sled down including the 3.5 kilometre Rinerhorn toboggan run or the Schatzalp toboggan run - plus night sledding is available throughout the season.  Sleds can be rented for a local fee from the valley stations.

With 111 kilometres of marked walking trails in Davos, you'll have plenty of snow cleared routes to explore. The Hohe Promenade in Davos is one of our favourite gentle walks. Take the elevated promenade from amazing views over the town and the surrounding mountains.

When you're not on the slopes head to the Seehofseeli ice rink, it's right in the centre of Davos Dorf. You can enjoy skating, curling and even ice hockey.
