Discover Oberau

Wild and beautiful – hence the name of one of the Tyrol’s loveliest and most unspoilt valleys. Even though Innsbruck is just under two hours away it could be a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The village is dominated by the view of the 250 year old church baroque church against the backdrop of the mountains. The church is often called the 'Cathedral' due to its size. This charming village is the ideal place for skiers just starting out on the slopes, or for improvers looking to hone their craft.

The neighbouring village of Niederau is just three kilometres away and is easily accessible by free ski bus service. Auffach, at the end of the valley, has some more challenging slopes and is now linked with Alpbach’s ski area to form the Ski Juwel Area.

In recent seasons, the Wildschönau has won awards for ‘Best Family Ski Area’ and ‘Friendliest Staff’, as well as one for excellent piste preparation.

Rooted in traditional Tyrolean flavours, the local culinary scene is hearty, comforting, and full of Alpine character. In many of the cosy mountain huts and charming restaurants in resort, you'll find classic Austrian alpine dishes such as goulash soup, knödels (dumplings served in broth), apfelstrudel, and kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancakes) on the menu.

Après ski here is all about winding down - think crackling fires, homemade schnapps, hearty food and good company. The Hotel Tirolerhof’s Stadl Bar is a popular place for guests and locals alike, with live music throughout the season.

For those wanting a bit more nightlife, the neighbouring village of Auffach (a short ski bus or taxi ride away) has a slightly livelier après ski scene at the base of the Schatzberg gondola.

The local museum in nearby Niederau is open every Wed from 12-7pm from the 23rd Dec. Cost approx: €3.80/€5.60 per person

The Art Gallery in Niederau is open daily from 5-6.30pm

The night bus (Nightliner) operates Friday and Saturday from 8pm – 3am*.

The resort buses between Niederau, Oberau and Auffach are free with your guest card.

*Buses have limited running times in low season
