Discover Zermatt

Even without its iconic Matterhorn, Zermatt would surely be one of the world’s top ski resorts. It has an excellent ski area at high-altitude, and the breath taking views of Europe’s most famous peak add an unbeatable and unique crowning glory. The village is car-free apart from electric cars and horse-drawn carriages. A regular free e-bus route runs between the railway station and the cable cars, making it easy to get on and off of the slopes each day. Just off the bustling Bahnhofstrasse you'll find quaint little streets, elegant boutiques, cosy bars and mouth-watering chocolate shops.

With direct access to the slopes in either direction from the village centre - you'll be on the mountain in no time! Travel via cable car, funicular or the famous Gornergrat mountain railway, which takes you on a spectacular ride up to 3089 metres, where you'll have the best views of the Gorner glacier. To reach the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, take the final stage of the 3S Gondola to Europe's highest mountain station at Klein Matterhorn 3883 metres. From the top, you can choose to ski over to Zermatt’s Italian neighbour, Cervinia, for the day on the International lift pass. If you're up for a challenge take on the Matterhorn Ski Safari - attempt to cover 10,000 – 12,000 metres of altitude without skiing the same slope or taking the same lift twice.

The new Matterhorn Alpine Crossing which opened in 2023, completes the continuous cable car link between Switzerland and Italy making it possible for non-skiers to travel between the two countries, as well as skiers in the winter.
